The MBBS students are taught to prescribe rationally for common diseases in the community They are also motivated to prescribe for special and vulnerable group like children, elderly and patients with renal and hepatic impairment and pregnancy. The student are given a project to encourage adverse reaction reporting and another project to stress on the rational prescribing forvarious systemic diseases .They are taught the importance of Pharmacoecnomics, informed consent in clinical trials the advantages of newer dosage forms, they are made aware of the existence and importance of essential medicine list.

10.Clinico pharmacological collaboration – Adverse drug reaction Monitoring Centre (AMC)- Pharmaco Vigilance Program of India (PVPI)
As an Adverse drug reaction Monitoring centre( AMC) under Pharmacovigilanceprogramme of India (PvPI) we are collecting Adverse reactions to drugs , devices , blood products , suture materials and reporting through Vigiflo to National Coordination Centre and to regional centre at Thiruvananthapuram every 3 months and give quarterly reports to the RNTCP . On an average we report 75 cases every month to the NCC and we are the topmost of all the AMCs in kerala submitting maximum reports to the NCC and one among the top 10 in India according to last 2017 reports. This department is also involved in antimicrobial prescription auditing of the various clinical departments to promote rational antimicrobial prescribing.

IN the year 2017 we conducted a CME on Bioethics “Pharmaethicon” by faculty from HAIFA UNESCO Bioethics chair and we had more than 100 delegates attending this CME from various institutions in the state. Three of our faculty completed certification course in Bioethics by HAIFA UNESCO Bioethics chair.
