Ever since the Govt. Medical College at Kozhikode, the second medical college that was established in kerala in the year 1957, the Department of Biochemistry has held a pivotal role in the health care scenario of Calicut since then. Major facets of the department are academic, research and diagnostics.

Courses Offered

MD Biochemisty

3 students are admitted every year. The duration of the course is 3 years. The academic activities include regular classes, laboratory training, seminars, journal clubs, attendance at CMEs, participation in National health programmes , Community health , thesis work & research activities.

250 students are admitted every year. Their academic and practical skills are assessed by conducting seminars and periodic examinations (both theory and practical). All students acquire the basic information regarding Biochemistry before they reach the clinical postings in third semester.
Urban Field Practice – UHC under medical college provides services for a population of 100000. Other urban Training Centres are at UHC Mankavu and UHC Paniankara.

We also conduct theory and practical classes for BDS (50 students per year).

BSc Nursing

60 students admitted every year for BSc nursing are being taught by our staff. We are also conducting classes for BSc MLT (25 students per year), DMLT (30 students per year), BSc Optometry (20 students per year), DORA (8 students per year), Diploma in Endoscopy technology (5 students per year), BSc Perfusion technology (2 students per year), Diploma in Respiratory technology (5 students per year).
