Department Details

Department of General Medicine is the main anchor on which the Calicut Medical College is functioning. It caters to the needs of an ample number of patients from all over Kerala. The breadth and depth of its activities makes it one of the most unique departments of Calicut Medical College.

Our first and foremost priority is patient care with onus on a comprehensive care under the same roof. Our casualty emergency services, the inpatient and ICU care are of unwavering standards and quality.

Academic activities of the undergraduates and post graduates remain one of our prime concerns and medical knowledge is constantly enriched and upgraded through seminars and case discussions.

We are in the forefront of research. Research activities go on in full swing in the different arenas of medicine. Our department can boast of 6 faculties who have acquired PhD in the last year and 2 more faculties who are on the verge of completion. We have umpteen numbers of publications already to our credit. An online and printed quarterly medical journal launched by our department is yet another feather in our cap. Annually conducted CME of our department is an academic treat for the general practitioners, physicians and post graduates from all over Kerala. Hands on workshop training programmes conducted on a regular basis is an integral part of our system which empowers the post graduates and interns to deal with emergency situations.

Considering our academic excellence and wealth of clinical materials available, the medical Council aptly increased our PG seats by 30% and medicine department of Calicut medical college of on eof the most sought after for post graduates training which peaks volumes of our standards.

We conduct specialty clinics in the fields of infectious diseases, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Haematology and diabetes with focused and committed care.

A devoted, comprehensive and targeted geriatric care addressing the multitude of health issues confronted by our elderly population is yet another arena we focus upon thereby improving their quality of life.

We are envisaging to conduct allied courses in the field of diabetes and emergency medicine for a refined patient care which will go a long way in boosting the treatment standards.

Needless to say, the department of medicine serves as a benchmark with regard to both academic and health care standards of the cream institutions of our country
